When you purchased your web hosting account, you received an e-mail with two or more DNS servers listed. This is the information you will need.
- Log into GoDaddy
Start with logging into your GoDaddy account with the user ID and password you have used when purchasing your domain name.
- Go to the domain management screen
Click on Domains button. It should be on the left side, towards the top, just under the GoDaddy logo. A menu will open. Select My Domain Names.
- Pick the domain name to update
You will see the list of all your domain names. Click on the one you want to update - it should be exactly the same as the domain you typed in when buying a hosting package.
- Info screen
You can review the information on this screen. Once done click on one of the links under Name Servers, in the middle column, or on the icon that says Nameservers underneath it.
- Change nameservers
By default Nameservers 1 and 2 will be populated pointing to GoDaddy’s servers that keep parked domain names. Delete all text in those two fields and replace with the DNS server names that you have received in the e-mail from your hosting provider. Verify spelling. Then click OK.
That’s all. You can log out from GoDaddy. After anywhere from 5 minutes to 48 hours you will be able to access your web host by typing the domain name into your browser. For now, you can use the IP address you were supplied in the welcome e-mail from HostGator.
